Zed Run | The History of a DonKeynoté Appraisal
How Good Month got involved with Zed Run and became a fixture to the marketplace pricing.
TL;DR
While on the look out for platforms that took NFT and utility to the next level; Good Month saw that Zed Run was attracting net-new crypto users and the horse floor was in need of some sound definition. IRL horses are measured in ✋z, but in the Metaverse these 🐎 horsefacekillah’s are measured in 💎👐 z.
How did Good Month get into Zed Run?
It was early January 2021 and the CryptoArt world was booming. Good Month’s wallets had been steady grinding on crypto asset purchases and exercising 💎👐 before, during and beyond the crypto winter ❄️🥶 (2015 - 2020).
Apparently there was a pandemic IRL, but when you live in the Metaverse all you really think about is which bits have legs to run the Metaverse. Therefore, you’re bound to hit a growth spurt 🚀. With the turn of 2021, Hashmasks launches a generative Basquiat-influenced art project that called for the efforts of a community of 70 artists to create 16,384 pieces of art. On top of the collaboration, it allowed collectors of the said art pieces the ability to acquire tokens for the project. These tokens were called Name Changing Tokens (NCT) . With the sound execution of an Artist community to incentivize the supply and create the human-generative artisanal value, it was enough to get Good Month ready to allocate its holdings to a new asset, the non-fungible token (NFT). The utility of an additional asset alongside a piece of art was now a real life use-case. In fact, it was easy to see how quickly NFTs could adapt to future revenue streams via leasing, hodling, or staking.
After 2 months of steady prospecting and buying, we decided NFT Art season was coming to a close for us. On March 20, 2021 the Good Month collection decided to stop buying NFT Art based on aesthetics:
During this time, we sat back, sat still and observed where the spend within the burgeoning nascent space would traverse. One of our first NFT purchases was a Crypto Dunk Collection , because we were enamored by the execution of NBA Top Shot and the way Top Shot was able to make Crypto go mainstream. It was an endeavor that no project/effort had been successful with to date. Excited at the speculation of Top Shot bringing NBA fans into the Crypto world, we knew that once these users would adopt a web3 wallet, we wanted to meet them in the Metaverse as early as possible. Top Shot had things go right, but there was a ton of growth they needed to productize in both onboarding and utility. With Good Month’s aesthetic pursuits on ice, we kept the 👀z peeled & were ready to go 🍌z. 👇
After this tweet, we saw a twitter user DrewAustin purchase a NBA NFT on the ETH chain using SuperRare.Co. We went over to twitterverse & saw he was into NBA TopShot, but also that he had dug deep into a digital horse racing platform called Zed Run.
We then dug deep. The number of users within the discord were low. The digital platform was labeled as BETA, but an immense amount of product quality had already been delivered. The platform had asset acquisition, a marketplace mechanism, and a passive income opportunity. The level of product quality development was so impressive that one would expect such features and functionalities to be merely roadmapped. The horses are developed on Matic’s chain, and using Open Sea’s Matic BETA to sell horses in a marketplace helped avoid the heartburn of gas costs immediately. This was exactly what Good Month was looking for: the overflow platform to capture the NBA Top Shot users. Ultimately, we feel that Zed Run is now responsible for further engraining the gateway habits of utilizing a web3 wallet, in this case MetaMask. At the time of this writing, and in less than 2 weeks of participating in Zed Run, the discord community has grown to 21.5k users.
How did Good Month get into Appraising Zed Horses?
After we did an analysis of the platform and decided that we wanted in, we started looking for horses to own. The attributes. The odds. The future platform considerations. The growing demand. We jumped in, and saw that the floor was arbitrary. WETH is the standard, but USD was being quoted. The concepts of crypto had yet to sink in. We dropped in for a week to help new users find the Mares, Fillys, Stallions, and Colts of their dreams. With community tools, drop prices, racing odds and racing equity provided by previous owners we were able to quickly serve the 💎👐 new comers on their pricing expectations. We’re long on this platform, and long on the community. A member of our team @DonKeynoté has been hard at work serving the people with pricing appraisals and we will continue to provide insights on his knowledge as he digs deep into the community & the platform.
Since @DonKeynoté has been helping the community, we have heard several testimonies of people who were needing to liquidate, took some time to stand by a price range and earned the proceeds that they deserved for their hard earning horse. We can’t wait to deliver more of these stories to the community and continue to provide value as these horses continue on their crypto journey into the Metaverse.
